Question:

Does Create React App and Next.js do the same thing?

Answer:

Create-React-App is basically React with an integrated build system. So it acts like a good boilerplate. We don't have to worry about setting up Webpack, Babel and other dependent packages, just to run React. Other than that, if we require extra functionalities like routing, server side rendering and so on, we need to add packages on top of Create-React-App.

Next.js is a full stack React framework. It comes bundled with efficient build system, server side rendering, routing, API routing and lot more features that scores in production environment.

Question:

How can we get started with a Next.js application?

Answer:

One way is to use npx command.

npx create-next-app

create-next-app package is maintained by the creators of Next.js. Above command opens up an interactive session, using which a starter application can be setup. The create-next-app is part of the Next.js monorepo and the same framework test cases are run on the package also. This ensures that create-next-app works smoothly with all releases of Next.js.

Equivalent yarn command is:

yarn create next-app

We can also install different packages manually and start a Next.js project.

yarn add next react react-dom
